What is Footgolf?

Footgolf has surged in popularity in recent years, captivating enthusiasts with its unique blend of football and golf.

Played on traditional golf courses, this exciting sport challenges players to navigate 18 holes using nothing but their feet and a regulation football, aiming to sink the ball into oversized holes in as few shots as possible.

Much like its counterpart, golf, Footgolf features fairways, tees, bunkers, and either 9 or 18 holes. However, the absence of golf clubs and the use of a football add a refreshing twist to the game.

Tee shots are taken from behind designated 2 meter tee lines, with players adhering to the rule of playing the ball as it lies, without any form of adjustment.

At Downpatrick, we provide everything you need to experience the thrill of Footgolf. Simply bring yourself and your enthusiasm, and we'll supply the regulation size 5 football. Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the sport, Footgolf offers an exhilarating outdoor activity for individuals and groups alike.

Rules of Footgolf

  • Understanding FootGolf

FootGolf is enjoyed on a golf course utilising a football, featuring 18 holes of play. The aim of the game is to manoeuvre the ball into the hole using only your feet, striving for the fewest shots possible.

  • Maintain The Pace

Keep in step with other playing groups. Should you lag behind, allow fellow players to pass. Ensure the ball has fully halted before the subsequent kick.

  • Stay Behind The Line

Tee shots must originate from behind the tee line, extending up to 2 metres. Engage with the ball as it lies; no adjustment or contact is permitted. Only one ball may be in motion at any given moment.

  • Obstructions

Loose items, such as branches, leaves, or stones, may be relocated without penalty. Should an immovable obstacle impede play (such as a tee sign or fence), the ball may be lifted or dropped without penalty.

  • Out of Bounds

Should a ball be declared out of bounds or unplayable, it may be repositioned with a one-stroke penalty, but no closer than 1 metre to the hole. Alternatively, it may be replayed from the previous shot.

  • Decorum

Avoid positioning yourself directly behind or in line with the hole when another player is preparing to play, as this may prove distracting. The maximum score allowable is 10 shots per hole.
